Hubert H. Humphrey

Compassion is not weakness, and concern for the unfortunate is not socialism.

Act 40

My pregnant belly led me to Orange Julius. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed one of their sweet treats since my pregnancy with Chloe. My Strawberry and Banana Julius was divine, and I was also pleased to see I could add a buck to my order and have it donated to Children’s Miracle Network. If you’re at the mall, stop by for a sweet treat and help a child.

George Washington Carver

How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because some day in life you will have been all of these.

Act 38

Stamp Out Hunger is tomorrow morning. USPS is collecting non-perishable food items to help local families in need. Remember to place a sack of food by your mailbox before the letter carrier arrives tomorrow. I put our bag out tonight so we won’t forget in the morning.

Act 36

Costco is currently asking shoppers to make a donation to Seattle Children’s Hospital. I made my donation in Chloe’s name.

Act 35

Currently Toys''R''Us is asking shoppers to make a donation to Save the Children with their purchase. It’s a great organization, and it’s an easy way to give. If you’re a mommy like me, I’m sure you end up in that store from time to time anyways.

Howard Zinn

"To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places -- and there are so many -- where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction."
